Building Life Cycle - Part 9 - Exterior Painting

Building Life Cycle - Part 9 - Exterior Painting
It's not just curb appeal!

As a property (or building) manager, you will frequently assist owners with exterior painting projects across your portfolio. If you are lucky, it will be one property per year, but you may also have several going at once. The first few can be overwhelming and time-consuming. Even the most knowledgeable property manager can experience challenging ones over their career. However, they do not need to be difficult every time.<. />

 Topics discussed will include:

  • requesting quotes: clear scope of work, timelines, tips for success
  • understanding paint, caulking/sealants, and urethane membranes
  • WorkSafeBC regulations: ladders/scaffolding, COVID protocols, hazardous material abatement
  • identifying “red flags” on projects and practical solutions to address
  • treating your contractors well i.e. “common practices that drive contractors crazy?”
  • learning how various building reports shape exterior painting quote requests
  • understanding the role of consultants: paint inspectors & building engineers

Practical information appropriate for all property & building managers at every stage of their career.
